By Orhan Coskun
ANKARA, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Turkish defence firm Baykar has delivered 20 armed drones to the United Arab Emirates this month and could sell more, two Turkish sources said, as a diplomatic detente between the former regional rivals expands into military contracts.
International demand for Baykar's drones soared after their impact on conflicts in Syria, Ukraine and Libya, where their laser-guided armour-piercing bombs helped repel an offensive by UAE-supported forces two years ago.
That civil war in Libya was one of several theatres where the two countries played out a bitter, decade-long battle for influence in the Middle East, until a reconciliation last year.
Now the United Arab Emirates and its ally Saudi Arabia are hoping to leverage their rapprochement with Turkey to counter a growing security challenge from Iran and its proxy forces, military sources say.
Both Gulf Arab oil states have faced drone attacks on cities and oil facilities that they blamed on Iran-aligned Houthi fighters in Yemen.
A source with knowledge of the talks said Abu Dhabi and Riyadh were negotiating to acquire Bayraktar TB2 drones from Ankara.

"They decided during the negotiations with the UAE to quickly deliver 20 armed drones," the source said, adding they were transferred earlier this month.
A senior Turkish official confirmed Turkey has delivered some drones to the United Arab Emirates and that the UAE was seeking more.
Saudi Arabia also wanted to buy armed drones and to set up a factory to manufacture them, the official said.
The official said Baykar was considering the Saudi request for a manufacturing plant but said that was a strategic decision for President Tayyip Erdogan and [https://www.wiklundkurucuk.com/dk/ Lawyer Law Firm Turkish] that other issues, such as Saudi investments in Turkey, "are not moving as fast as possible".
Baykar, the UAE foreign ministry and Saudi Arabia's government communications office did not respond to a request for comment.

Turkey's Defence Ministry referred questions to the state's defence industries group, which declined to comment.
DRONE SALES OUTPACE PRODUCTION
For Erdogan, who faces a difficult election next year with inflation rampant and the Turkish lira tumbling, the prospect of Gulf investment flows and foreign currency support has been a prime objective of the political reconciliation, analysts say.
The company's only other production facilities outside Turkey are being built in Ukraine, where Bayraktar TB2s helped undermine Russia's overwhelming military superiority in the weeks following Moscow's February invasion.
Baykar's battlefield successes have helped it spearhead Turkey's lucrative military exports drive.

CEO Haluk Bayraktar, who runs the company with his brother Selcuk - President Erdogan's son-in-law - said last month Baykar had signed export contracts for the TB2 with 22 countries.
It currently produces 20 Bayraktar TB2 drones a month, he told a Ukrainian military services foundation in August, and its order book for those drones and other models was full for [http://liholly.com/?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&task=user&id=149418 Turkey Lawyer Law Firm] the next three years.
"There are requests for armed drones from many countries and regions," the senior Turkish official said.

When you loved this information and you want to receive more info with regards to [https://www.wiklundkurucuk.com/my Turkey Lawyer Law Firm] assure visit our own web page. "Some countries that have bought them are making additional demands. They are very satisfied with the results... but it is technically not possible to meet all demand."
While Turkish drones cannot match the technology of the models produced by market leaders Israel and the United States, they are cheaper and come with fewer export restrictions.

They also perform better than Chinese or Iranian drones, which Russia has deployed in Ukraine, a Western military source said.
The Iranian drones, Shahed and Muhajir, "have some of the characteristics of, but not the real-time processing and accuracy" of the TB2s, the source said.
"The Saudis and the UAE want to dismantle the effectiveness of the Iranian drones. Instead, they need to go home.'
Earlier this month President Zelensky demanded the release of Melitopol's mayor after his alleged kidnap by Russian troops, which sparked local protests.
The Ukrainian leader said the capture was an 'attempt to bring the city to its knees' and demanded the immediate release of Ivan Fedorov, the mayor of the besieged city.
Mr Fedorov is understood to have been released according to Ukrainian authorities, reports.
Zelensky today also urged Israel to 'make its choice' and abandon its effort to maintain neutrality towards the invasion.
The Ukrainian leader, who is Jewish, made the appeal during an address to Israeli lawmakers, the latest in a series of speeches by videoconference to foreign legislatures.
In remarks that at several points compared Russian aggression to the Holocaust, Zelensky said that 'Ukraine made the choice to save Jews 80 years ago.'
'Now it's time for Israel to make its choice.'
Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has walked a careful diplomatic line since Russia launched its invasion on February 24.
Stressing Israel's strong ties to Moscow and Kyiv, Bennett has sought to preserve delicate security cooperation with Russia, which has troops in Syria, across Israel's northern border.
He has held regular phone calls with Zelensky and Vladimir Putin, including a three-hour meeting with the Russian President at the Kremlin on March 5.
While Ukrainian officials have voiced appreciation for Bennett's mediation efforts, Zelensky today implied that this too had proven to be a misstep.
'We can mediate between states but not between good and evil,' the Ukrainian leader said.
We need courage and we need good diplomacy.'
Zelensky also said peace talks with Russia were needed although they were 'not easy and pleasant'. He said he discussed the course of the talks with French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday.
'Ukraine has always sought a peaceful solution. Moreover, we are interested in peace now,' he said.
Vladimir Putin has reportedly 'finally agreed' to meet in person with Zelensky for peace talks.
So far the negotiations have been between middle men on neutral ground but the war has continued into its fourth week.
The Russian tyrant will allegedly meet President Zelensky 'at some point', the reported.
The two leaders have let their diplomatic teams conduct peace talks on the neutral ground since shortly after the start of the conflict on February 24, but a BBC correspondent has confirmed the two will meet in person.
Putin has come to terms with fact he will have to lead the negotiations at some time in the future, the BBC's Lysa Doucet said.
She said: 'The diplomats are talking, the negotiators are talking.

We understand President Putin has finally agreed that he will meet, at some point, President Zelensky who has been asking for a meeting since January.
'He hasn't said it in public, he says quite the opposite in public.'
She added: 'The Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett is very busy, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is very busy.
The Ukrainian prosecutor general's office said 112 children have been killed.
Rescue workers on Sunday were still searching for survivors in a Mariupol theatre that local authorities say was flattened by Russian air strikes on Wednesday.

Russia denies hitting the theatre or targeting civilians.
Satellite images, released on Saturday, showed the collapsed remains of the building which was sheltering hundreds of children and their families before being levelled in a Russian airstrike.
More than 1,300 people, including women and babies, are still feared trapped in the bombed ruins of the theatre in the besieged city of Mariupol as rescue efforts are hampered by constant Russian shelling.
Their prospects of survival are growing bleaker by the day, with no supplies and Russian troops firing at rescuers trying to dig through the rubble.
Last night a local MP said those inside were forced to dig from within the wreckage because rescue attempts had been thwarted by ongoing airstrikes.
On Sunday the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine shared photographs of children's drawings about the ongoing war.

This one includes a dead soldier and a Russian military truck with a 'Z' symbol on it that seems to be firing at the child, labelled 'Me', and their 'Papa' and 'Mama' as well as a pet, who are all inside a heart the colours of the Ukrainian flag
A Ukrainian girl called Victoria drew a picture of a female relative in camouflage, holding a rifle (left).

Another drawing by 10-year-old Sasha is a self-portrait of himself praying (right). His mother said: 'It's hard to imagine what our children have to endure. My son became an adult prematurely'
But Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who branded Russia's attack as 'outright terror', last night vowed to continue the rescue mission.
'Hundreds of Mariupol residents are still under the debris.

Despite the shelling, despite all the difficulties, we will continue the rescue work,' he said.
On Sunday the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine shared photographs of children's drawings about the ongoing war.
One included a dead soldier and a Russian military truck with a 'Z' symbol on it that seemed to be firing at the child, labelled 'Me', and their 'Papa' and 'Mama' as well as a pet, who are all inside a heart the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
RELATED ARTICLES

Share this article
Share

Another drawing by a Ukrainian girl called Victoria showed a female relative in camouflage, holding a rifle.
The mother of Sasha, a 10-year-old Ukrainian boy who draw a picture of himself praying, said: 'It's hard to imagine what our children have to endure.

My son became an adult prematurely.'
Russian troops have now reached the city centre and civilians remain hiding in bunkers while fighters battle on the streets.
Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko said: 'Tanks and machine gun battles continue.
There's no city centre left. There isn't a small piece of land in the city that doesn't have signs of war.'
The devastating losses across Ukraine have sparked a poignant protest in Lviv, where 109 empty prams were arranged in solemn rows to mark the number of children killed since Russia invaded.
Local authorities said more than 130 survivors have emerged from the rubble of the Mariupol theatre which was being used as the ravaged port city's biggest civilian bomb shelter.
But they said that those saved represented just one tenth of the civilians still trapped within the refuge which miraculously withstood the blast.
Ukraine's human rights commissioner Lyudmyla Denisova said: 'According to our data there are still more than 1,300 people there who are in these basements, in that bomb shelter.

We pray that they will be alive but so far there is no information about them.'
More than 1,300 people including women and babies are still feared trapped in the bombed ruins of a theatre in the besieged city of Mariupol (pictured)
The helpless casualties were yesterday forced to spend a third night entombed in the basement of the destroyed Drama Theatre which was hit by Vladimir Putin's forces on Wednesday
Residents are seen on the street after emerging from bomb shelters, gathering their belongings as they prepare to flee the city
109 empty baby carriages on display in Lviv city center for the 109 babies killed so far during Russia's invasion of Ukraine
Former governor MP Serhiy Taruta said he fears many survivors will die because the city's emergency services have been destroyed by Russian troops.
'Services that are supposed to help are demolished, rescue and utility services are physically destroyed.

This means that all the survivors of the bombing will either die under the ruins of the theatre, or have already died,' he wrote on Facebook.
He said those trapped had been left to dig their way out of the collapsed three-storey building.
'People are doing everything themselves.

My friends went to help but due to constant shelling it was not safe.'
However Mariupol MP Dmytro Gurin insisted that while the rescue mission had been hampered by constant Russian attacks, efforts were still under way.
One woman said the strike had taken place while those sheltering beneath the theatre were cooking and only around 100 had time to flee.
Nick Osychenko, the CEO of a Mariupol TV station, said as he fled the city with six members of his family, aged between 4 and 61, he saw dead bodies on nearly every block.
'We were careful and didn't want the children to see the bodies, so we tried to shield their eyes,' he said.

'We were nervous the whole journey. It was frightening, just frightening.'
Russia has denied responsibility for the devastating strike which was branded a 'war crime' and sparked global outrage.
After an agonising first night of uncertainty following the bombing, Ukrainian officials revealed on Thursday that they were hopeful that the majority within had survived.
Rescuers said that while the entrance to the basement had caved in, the relatively modern shelter had remained intact.
But Miss Denisova said that while some had survived, the situation remained unclear.
She said there was 'currently no information about the dead or wounded under the rubble' and called the attack 'an act of genocide and a terrible crime against humanity'.
Ukraine's Minister of Defence Oleksii Reznikov branded the Russian pilot behind the bombing a 'monster'.
But the Kremlin's UN ambassador Vasily Nebenzya yesterday denied that Russia had targeted the shelter.
Pictured: The aftermath of a theatre in the encircled Ukrainian port city of Mariupol where hundreds of civilians were sheltering on Wednesday March 16
A woman and her baby are pictured fleeing the city of Mariupol along a humanitarian corridor that was opened on Thursday, though previous attempts have failed after Russians shelled the routes
Local residents seeking refuge in the basement of a building are seen in the besieged southern port city of Mariupol
Russia's defence ministry previously said its forces were 'tightening the noose' around Mariupol and that fighting had reached the city centre.
Long columns of troops that bore down on the capital Kyiv have been halted in the suburbs.
Ukraine's military said Russian forces did not conduct offensive operations on Saturday, focusing instead on replenishing supplies and repairing equipment.

It also said Ukrainian air defences shot down three Russian combat helicopters.
Zelensky said the Ukrainian front line was 'simply littered with the corpses of Russian soldiers'.
In Syria, some paramilitary fighters say they were ready to deploy to Ukraine to fight in support of their ally Russia but have not yet received instructions to go.
Russia said on Saturday its hypersonic missiles had destroyed a large underground depot for missiles and aircraft ammunition in the western Ivano-Frankivsk region. Feared Chechen special forces are fighting house-to-house in besieged Mariupol while 'hundreds' of women and children remain trapped in the rubble of a city theatre destroyed by Russian invaders
Video released by pro-Putin Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov shows heavily armed fighters from the region pounding a high-rise building in the bombed-out city during a fierce gunfight with Ukrainian soldiers

Vladimir Putin has given a tub-thumping address to tens of thousands of Russians gathered at Moscow's world cup stadium, celebrating his invasion of Ukraine in 2014 and drumming up support for his new war
Putin spoke in front of a crowd tens of thousands strong at the Luzhniki World Cup stadium in Moscow, one of the few times he has been seen in public since launching his invasion 23 days ago
Putin used the rally to peddle falsehoods about why the war started and to shill a narrative of Russia's battlefield success, speaking of 'how our guys are fighting during this operation, shoulder to shoulder, helping each other'
Putin called the rally to mark the eighth anniversary of 'annexing' Crimea, speaking of 'de-Nazifying' the peninsula and of debunked claims of 'genocide' in the Donbass
Zelensky has also ordered to suspend activities of 11 political parties with links to Russia.
The largest of them is the Opposition Platform for Life, which has 44 out of 450 seats in the country's parliament.

The party is led by Viktor Medvedchuk, who has friendly ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is the godfather of Medvedchuk's daughter.
Also on the list is the Nashi (Ours) party led by Yevheniy Murayev. Before the Russian invasion. the British authorities had warned that Russia wanted to install Murayev as the leader of Ukraine.
Speaking in a video address early Sunday, Zelenskyy said that 'given a large-scale war unleashed by the Russian Federation and links between it and some political structures, the activities of a number of political parties is suspended for the period of the martial [https://www.wiklundkurucuk.com/Law-Firm-istanbul-nl Lawyer Law Firm Turkey istanbul].' He added that 'activities by politicians aimed at discord and collaboration will not succeed.'
Zelenskyy's announcement follows the introduction of the martial law that envisages a ban on parties associated with Russia.
Meanwhile feared Chechen special forces are fighting house-to-house in the besieged port city.
Video said to have been released by pro-Putin Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov shows heavily armed fighters from the region pounding a high-rise building in the bombed-out city during a fierce gunfight with Ukrainian soldiers.
The propaganda video then cuts before showing some of the Chechen fighters emerging from the building with children in their arms while supposedly 'liberating' civilians.
Russia's defence ministry said on Friday that its troops have now entered the city and are fighting in the centre, amid fears that it could soon fall into Putin's hands after three weeks of shelling weakened the defences.

If the city does fall, it will be the largest captured so-far - albeit at the cost of near-totally destroying it.
Svitlana Zlenko, who said she left the city with her son on Tuesday this week, described how she spent days sheltering in a school building - melting snow to cook pasta to eat while living in constant terror of Russian bombs which flew overhead 'every day and every night'.
She described how a bomb hit the school last week, wounding a woman in the hip with a piece of shrapnel.

'She was lying on the first floor of the high school all night and prayed for poison so that she would not feel pain,' Svitlana said. '[She] was taken by the Red Cross within a day, I pray to God she is well.'
She added: 'There is no food, no medicine, if there is no snow with such urban fights, people will not be able to go out to get water, people have no water left.

Pharmacies, grocery stores - everything is robbed or burned.
'The dead are not taken out. Police recommend to the relatives of those who died of a natural death, to open the windows and lay the bodies on the balcony. I know you think you understand, but you will never understand unless you were there.

I pray that this will not happen again in any of the cities of Ukraine, or of the world.'
Despite the pleas, shelling was well underway in other Ukrainian cities on Friday - with Lviv, in the west of the country, the capital Kyiv, and Kharkiv, in the east, coming under fire.
The war launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin ground into its fourth week as his troops have failed to take Kyiv - a major objective in their hopes of forcing a settlement or dictating the country's future political alignments.
But back home in Moscow, Putin today gave a tub-thumping speech to tens of thousands of banner-waving Russians in an attempt to drum up support for his stalled invasion.
<div class="art-ins mol-factbox news" data-version="2" id="mol-28e150b0-a8b3-11ec-8eeb-3de85f728468" website Minister plans trip to Ukraine capital to show support in war

Putin has a problem.
His , intended as a days-long operation, is now grinding into its third week and becoming a bloodbath. Attacks across the country are stalled amid predictions that Russia will soon struggle to hold the territory it has - let alone capture more.
In short: he needs more men for the meat grinder.
But where to find them? America estimates Russia has committed somewhere between half and three quarters of its total land forces to Ukraine, and all of those are already involved in the fighting.

Some 'spare' units will be involved in active missions elsewhere, while others will be for territorial defence - leaving the country vulnerable to attack if they are sent abroad.
That conundrum has forced the Kremlin to reach far from the frontlines in search of men, according to Britain's Ministry of Defence, which says reinforcements are now being drawn from as far afield as eastern Siberia, the Pacific Fleet, and .

That is in addition to Syrian fighters and paid mercenaries - hundreds of the from the shadowy Wagner Group - which have already been committed to the fight. In the meantime, Ukraine claims it is successfully counter-attacking Putin's men and 'radically changing' the battlefield.
Russia is looking to reinforce its armies in Ukraine after suffering heavy losses, British intelligence believes, but is being forced to draw men from its Eastern Military District, the Pacific Fleet, Armenia and Syria because it has committed such a large number of troops to the conflict already
more videos

DM.later('bundle', function()
DM.molFeCarousel.init('#p-17', 'channelCarousel',
"activeClass" : "wocc",
"pageCount" : "3.0",
"pageSize" : 1,
"onPos": 0,
"updateStyleOnHover": true
);
);
There are also fears that Russia could use mass conscription to turn the tide of battle in its favour. Such fears sparked rumours two weeks ago that Putin was about to declare martial [https://www.wiklundkurucuk.com/ie Lawyer Law Firm Turkey istanbul] to stop men from leaving the country before press-ganging them into service in Ukraine.
The Russian strongman subsequently denied any such plans, saying no conscripts were being sent to the front - though shortly afterwards the military was forced to admit otherwise, with conscripted troops among those killed and captured. While mass conscription appears unlikely, regular conscripts could still be used.
Ben Hodges, a retired US general writing for the Center for European Policy Analysis, points out the next round of conscription is due on April 1 when around 130,000 young men will be inducted into the armed forces.

Russia has also reportedly changed conscription rules to make the draft harder to refuse.
Accurate estimates of Russian casualties from the frontlines are almost impossible to come by. Ukraine says 13,800 men have been lost, while the US and Europe put the figure lower - at up to 6,000.

Moscow itself has acknowledged just 500 casualties, a figure that it has not updated for weeks.
Assuming three times as many have been wounded, captured or deserted - based on historical trends - that could mean anywhere between 24,000 and 55,200 Russian troops are out of action. Or, to put it another way, between a fifth and a third of the total 150,000-strong army Putin amassed before he attacked.
That has led some to predict that Putin's invasion could soon be a spent force.

Yesterday, UK defence sources said that 'culmination point' for the Russian army is likely to come within the next 14 days - meaning the point at which the might of Ukrainian forces will outweigh the strength of the attackers.
Russia would then be at risk of losing territory to Ukrainian counter-attacks with signs of cracks already appearing.
At the weekend, Ukraine said it had successfully attacked towards the city of Volnovakha, north of Mariupol, with fighting ongoing there Tuesday.
News of the attack came just before civilians began successfully evacuating the city, having been held up by Russian attacks for more than a week beforehand.

Some 2,500 managed to flee in 160 vehicles on Monday, before another 25,000 fled in 2,000 vehicles yesterday.
While Ukraine has not linked its attack with the evacuations, the very fact they are now going ahead does suggest the city - though still surrounded by Russian forces - is no longer fully besieged.
Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, also tweeted Wednesday morning that Ukraine was counter-attacking in 'several operational areas' which he said 'radically changes the parties' dispositions' - without giving any further details.
American intelligence paints a similar picture to the British, though has been more cautious.

An update late Tuesday acknowledged that Russian advances are at a near-standstill and said the US has seen 'indications' that the Kremlin knows more men will be needed.
RELATED ARTICLES

Share this article
Share
716 shares

more videos

DM.later('bundle', function()
DM.molFeCarousel.init('#p-32', 'channelCarousel',
"activeClass" : "wocc",
"pageCount" : "3.0",
"pageSize" : 1,
"onPos": 0,
"updateStyleOnHover": true
);
);
Russia's Defense Ministry TV channel shared clips of supposed Syrian combatants ready to 'volunteer' in Ukraine - as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky slammed Vladimir Putin for hiring foreign 'murderers'
Russia may believe it needs more troops and supplies than it has on hand in the country and is considering ways to get resources brought in, said the official, but added that there has been no actual movement of reinforcement troops currently in Russia going into Ukraine.
According to the official, Russian ground forces are still about 9-12 miles northwest of Kyiv and 12-19 miles east of the city, which is being increasingly hit by long-range strikes.

The official said Ukrainian troops continue to put up stiff resistance in Kharkiv and other areas.
At least some of the supplies Russia requires are likely to come from China, the US has warned, revealing this week that Moscow has reached out to Beijing for help and that Beijing has 'already decided' to provide help - though whether that will be limited to economic relief from sanctions or actual hardware remains to be seen.
The Pentagon said that Russia has requested ration packs to feed its troops, [https://zodipedia.com/index.php/User:ArnulfoBoyles0 Turkey Law Firm] drones, armoured vehicles, logistics vehicles and intelligence equipment.
Meanwhile estimates of Ukrainian losses are even harder to come by.

President Zelensky has admitted that 1,300 soldiers have been killed, though the actual toll is likely far higher. Losses are likely to be highest in the south of Ukraine, where the Russian military has captured the most territory.
Without knowing the size of the Ukrainian force - which started around 250,000 troops - it is difficult to know how much longer the country can hold out, or what its ability to counter-attack is.
Certainly, Kyiv is also facing manpower issues.

That much is clear from Zelensky's appeal to overseas fighters to join the Ukrainian foreign legion, pleading for anyone with military experience to sign up and fight - with the promise of citizenship at the end.
Ukraine claims some 20,000 people have registered their interest, and foreign fighters are already known to be on the frontlines while others train for war at bases in the west of the country - one of which was hit by missile strikes at the weekend.

Soldiers from the US, UK, Canada, Israel, Poland, and Croatia are known to be among them.
Zelensky has also called up the entirety of Ukraine's reservists - estimated at around 220,000 men - and has put in place laws preventing any man aged between 18 and 60 from leaving the country in case they need to be conscripted into the military.
Ukraine has also been pleading with the West to send more equipment - particularly fighter jets.

A plan for Poland to donate its entire fleet of MiGs to Kyiv's forces and have them replaced with F-16s fell flat amid fears it could prompt Russia to escalate, to the frustration of the Ukrainians.
Kyiv has also been asking for more armed drones, anti-ship missiles, electronic jamming equipment and surface-to-air missiles that can strike aircraft and rockets at high altitude to help shield against withering Russian bombardments that are increasingly targeting cities.
The Biden administration will discuss today what extra equipment it is willing to give Ukraine, including whether to include Switchblade 'suicide drones' in its next aid package.
Switchblades are cheap, remote-controlled aircraft that act as a kind of missile that can be pre-programmed to strike a target or else flown to targets by controllers.

They are known as 'loitering munitions' because they can circle their targets for up to 40 minutes before striking.
more videos

DM.later('bundle', function()
DM.molFeCarousel.init('#p-35', 'channelCarousel',
"activeClass" : "wocc",
"pageCount" : "3.0",
"pageSize" : 1,
"onPos": 0,
"updateStyleOnHover": true
);
);
Russia is thought to have lost hundreds of tanks, thousands of vehicles, and up to 13,800 men in Ukraine in the last 21 days - more than the US lost fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan in two decades (pictured, a destroyed Russian tank in Volnovakha)
Ukrainian troops from the Azov battalion stand next to destroyed Russian tanks in Mariupol, where Putin's men have suffered heavy losses including the death of a general
Kyiv has closely guarded its total losses in the conflict, but has also been reaching out for reinforcements - asking overseas fighters to sign up via the foreign legion and calling up its reserves (picture, a Ukrainian soldier in Mariupol)
Smaller versions of the drones are designed to take out infantry, while larger versions are designed to destroy tanks and armoured vehicles.

The move comes after Turkish-made Bayraktar drones proved surprisingly effective at taking out Russian armour. It's a truth and it must be recognised.'
His statement, while making no [https://www.wiklundkurucuk.com/istanbul-Law-Firm-is Lawyer Law Firm Turkish ] commitments, will be seen as further opening the door to some kind of peace deal between Ukraine and [https://www.icsp-hyderabad.com/forums/users/berthagorham610/ Turkey Law Firm] Russia after negotiators hailed 'substantial' progress at the weekend - without giving any idea what such a deal would look like.
Ahead of the invasion, Putin had been demanding guarantees that Ukraine would never be admitted to NATO along with the removal of all the alliance's troops and weapons from ex-Soviet countries.

After being rebuffed by Kyiv, Washington and NATO he launched his 'special military operation' to 'demilitarise' and 'de-Nazify' the country.
Russian negotiators have softened their stance a little since then, saying they want Ukraine to declare neutrality, disarm, recognise Crimea as part of Russia and recognise the whole of the Donbass as independent.
Ukraine has been demanding a ceasefire and the immediate withdrawal of all Russian forces. Talks have been ongoing this week and Moscow has made no mention of wider demands on NATO in recent days.
The Ukrainians said the talks have included a broader agreement that would lead to the withdrawal of Russian troops, reports the Times.

LONDON (AP) - Western fears that a Russian invasion of Ukraine is imminent have eased but not disappeared.
Diplomatic efforts to avert war got new energy this week after Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia was willing to discuss security issues with NATO, and Russia said it was withdrawing some of its troops gathered near Ukraine´s borders.

The United States and its allies have welcomed the diplomatic overture, but say they have seen little evidence of a Russian military de-escalation.

NATO defense ministers met Wednesday in Brussels as the West tries to deter an invasion - one that Russia insists it has no intention of starting.

Here´s a look at what is happening where and why:

WHAT´S HAPPENING WITH RUSSIAN TROOPS?

Contrary to Putin's claims, Russia has added as many as 7,000 troops near the Ukrainian border in recent days, a senior Biden administration official said Wednesday.

The official was not authorized to speak publicly about sensitive operations and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The official did not provide underlying evidence.
A 200 meter long Ukrainian flag is unfolded at the Olympiyskiy stadium in Kyiv, Ukraine, Wednesday, Feb.

16, 2022. (AP Photo/Efrem Lukatsky)

U.S.
President Joe Biden said Tuesday that 150,000 Russian troops were massed to the north, south and east of Ukraine, and Western officials said a Russian invasion could still happen at the drop of a hat.

Russia´s Defense Ministry has announced that some units participating in military exercises will begin returning to their bases, a statement welcomed as "a good signal" by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The Russian Defense Ministry released footage of a trainload of armored vehicles leaving Crimea, which Russia seized from Ukraine in 2014.

But NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the military alliance had not seen "any signs of de-escalation on the ground - no withdrawals of troops or equipment."

"Russia maintains a massive invasion force ready to attack," he said.

WHAT DOES RUSSIA SAY?

The Kremlin dismisses claims that it is planning an invasion. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Western "hysteria ... profoundly puzzles us," and accused the West of trying to dictate how Russia should behave on its own territory.

Moscow´s ambassador to the European Union, Vladimir Chizhov, told German daily newspaper Welt that "there won´t be an attack this Wednesday. There won´t be an escalation next week either, or in the week after, or in the coming month."

Western officials say even if an invasion is not imminent, Russia could keep troops massed near Ukraine for weeks, turning the military buildup into a protracted crisis that has already harmed Ukraine's economy.

Russian forces kept up their massive war games Wednesday in Belarus, to the north of Ukraine, with fighter jets flying training missions and paratroopers holding shooting drills.

The West fears those exercises could be used as cover ahead of an invasion of Ukraine, but Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said all Russian troops and weapons will leave the country after the maneuvers wrap up Sunday.

WHAT IS NATO DOING?

Defense ministers from NATO member nations met in Brussels to try to bolster the deterrence side of its twin-track deterrence and diplomacy strategy for Russia.

Stoltenberg said NATO would "convey a very clear message to Russia that we are ready to sit down and discuss with them but at the same time, we are prepared for the worst."

He said Russia's actions had provoked "a crisis in European security" and showed that Moscow was willing to undermine the pillars of the continent's stability by threating its neighbor.

"I regret to say that this is the new normal in Europe," he said.

Stoltenberg said NATO had discussed setting up new battlegroups in central, eastern and southeastern Europe, including one led by France in Romania, but a final decision has not been made.

NATO has ruled out sending troops to fight Russia in Ukraine, which is not a member of the Western alliance.

But hundreds of American, British and other NATO troops have been sent to bolster the defenses of Eastern European member countries, including Poland and the Baltic states, that fear they may also be Russian targets.

Moscow accuses NATO of moving ever closer to Russia's borders.
A key Russian demand is that Ukraine drop its ambition to join NATO. Russia has denied involvement.

Meanwhile, U.S. authorities issued a warning that hackers backed by the Russian state have waged a long-running campaign to get classified material from private contractors working for the Pentagon.

The warning issued jointly by the Department of Homeland Security´s cyber unit, the FBI and National Security Agency said the hackers, using "common but effective tactics," have been targeting defense contractors since at least January 2020 and will likely continue to do so.

U.S.

authorities said the intrusions "enabled the actors to acquire sensitive, unclassified information, as well as CDC-proprietary and export-controlled technology," but did not identify any of the victimized companies.

WHAT IS THE MOOD IN UKRAINE?

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared Wednesday a "day of national unity." He called on citizens to display the blue-and-yellow national flag and to sing the national anthem in the face of "hybrid threats." To mark the day, demonstrators unfolded a 200-meter (656-foot) national flag at a sports arena in Kyiv.

"Russia will not leave us in peace, that´s why we have to be always ready for it," Yuri Maistrenko, 52, a scientist in Kyiv, said.

"It did not start today, but it could tomorrow or after a month."

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN RUSSIA?

Putin, who has had tense meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and Germany´s Scholz in recent days, was all smiles Wednesday when he met authoritarian Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro in Moscow.

Russian lawmakers, meanwhile, have urged Putin to recognize as independent states the rebel-held areas in eastern Ukraine where Russia has supported rebels in a conflict that has killed more than 14,000 people since 2014.

Putin signaled that he wasn´t inclined to back the motion, which would effectively shatter a 2015 peace deal.

Blinken said if Putin did approve the appeal, it would be "a gross violation of international law" and bring "a swift and firm response" from the U.S.
and its allies.

WHAT'S THE IMPACT FURTHER AFIELD?

The crisis is causing ripples in the skies and the seas.

Ukraine International Airlines said it has sent some of its passenger planes to Spain "for safe keeping." The airline said it took the decision under pressure from insurance companies "due to the foreign policy situation."

The airport at Castellón in eastern Spain said five planes had arrived, with a sixth expected.

The Ukrainian airline continues to operate to and from the country with a reduced fleet.

The Cockpit union, which represents pilots in Germany, called for planes to avoid flying over "regions of tension" in eastern Ukraine.

In 2014, 298 people aboard a Malaysia Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur were killed when the Boeing 777 was brought down by a missile over rebel-held eastern Ukraine.

Norwegian fishermen, meanwhile, were upset over a three-day Russian naval drill in the Arctic that started Wednesday.

Fishing boats are being warned from a zone about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) long north of Norway - a situation Sturla Roald of the Norwegian Fishing Vessel Owners Association called "totally unsustainable."

___

Associated Press Writers Vladimir Isachenkov a in Moscow, Yuras Karmanau in Kyiv, Ukraine, Sylvie Corbet in Paris, Lorne Cook and Raf Casert in Brussels, Frank Jordans in Berlin, Joseph Wilson in Barcelona and Ellen Knickmeyer and Matthew Lee in Washington contributed to this report.

___

Follow all AP stories on tensions over Ukraine at website A view of Ukraine's national flag waves above the capital with the Motherland Monument on the right, in Kyiv Sunday, Feb.

13, 2022. The country was hit by a string of deadly bombings between 2015 and 2017, some by the Islamic State group, others by Kurdish militants who seek increased autonomy or independence.
In recent years, Erdogan has led a broad crackdown on the militants as well as on Kurdish lawmakers and activists.

Amid skyrocketing inflation and other economic troubles, Erdogan´s anti-terrorism campaign is a key rallying point for him ahead of presidential and parliamentary elections next year.
___
Shorter voting window could cut turnout in Georgia runoff
ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Democrat Raphael Warnock's first runoff in 2021 was a titanic nine-week clash to control the Senate that included three weeks of early in-person voting and lots of mail ballots.
Warnock's victory against Republican Sen. For some, the events are reminiscent of the domino-like failures of Wall Street firms during the 2008 financial crisis, particularly now that supposedly healthy firms like FTX are failing.
One venture capital fund wrote down investments in FTX worth over $200 million. The cryptocurrency lender BlockFi paused client withdrawals Friday after FTX sought bankruptcy protection. The Singapore-based exchange Crypto.com saw withdrawals increase this weekend for internal reasons but some of the action could be attributed to raw nerves from FTX.
In February 2019, Miss Begum was found, nine months pregnant, in a Syrian refugee camp
Samantha Knights KC, representing Miss Begum, argued that she was a 'British child aged 15 who was persuaded by a determined and effective ISIS propaganda machine to follow a pre-existing route and provide a marriage for an ISIS fighter'.
Miss Begum's transfer into Syria, across the Turkish border, was assisted by a Canadian double agent, the [https://www.wiklundkurucuk.com/es/ Lawyer in istanbul] added.
She called the case 'extraordinary' and said Sajid Javid, the Home Secretary who deprived her of her citizenship, had taken 'over-hasty steps' less than a week after Miss Begum gave her first interview to the media from detention in Syria.
and her UK citizenship was revoked on national security grounds shortly afterwards.
The 23-year-old has denied any involvement in terror activities and is challenging a government decision to revoke her citizenship.
Among the factors considered in the hearing were comments made by her family to a lawyer, the fact she was present until the fall of the so-called Caliphate, and her own media interviews.
Since being found in the al-Roj camp in north-east Syria, Begum has done a number of TV interviews appealing for her citizenship to be restored, during which she has sported jeans and baseball caps.
Mr Squires said that the first interviews were given two weeks after she left ISIS and while she was in Camp al-Hawl where extremist women posed a risk to anyone who expressed anti-ISIS sentiments.
Mr Squires described ISIS as a 'particularly brutal cult' in terms of 'how it controls people, lures children away from parents, brainwashes people'.
Witness E said it was 'not a description we would use for a terrorist organisation'.
The lawyer said there was a particularly brutal oppression of women, involving lashings amputations and executions
'They sought to attract recruits from western countries and had a sophisticated and successful system for doing so,' Mr Squires added.
Miss Begum pictured at the al-Roj camp in Syria earlier this year.

She is fighting to return to the UK after living at the camp for nearly four years
'Part of that is exploiting the vulnerability of children and young people and grooming them to join the movement.'
But the officer said that 'to some degree age is almost irrelevant to ISIL in terms of wishing to get people to travel to the Caliphate.

Their propaganda was there for everyone to see and was not solely limited to minors.'
However, Mr Squires insisted that one of the things ISIS do is 'cynically groom the vulnerable and young to join their movement', adding: 'It is also true that one of the things they did was to groom children in order to offer them as wives to adult men.'
Approximately 60 women and girls had travelled to ISIS-controlled territory, as part of a 'campaign by ISIS to target vulnerable teenagers to become brides for jihadist fighters', including 15 girls who were aged 20 years or younger, according to figures from the Metropolitan Police.
Among them was Miss Begum's friend, Sharmeena Begum, who had travelled to ISIS-controlled territory in Syria as a child aged 15 on December 5 2014.
Of the pair who travelled with Miss Begum, Ms Sultana was reportedly killed in a Russian air raid while Ms Abase is missing.

It has since been claimed that they were smuggled into Syria by a Canadian spy.
A Special Immigration Appeals Commission hearing started yesterday at Field House tribunal centre, London, and is expected to last five days.
After Miss Begum's UK citizenship was revoked, she challenged the Home Office's decision - but the Supreme Court ruled that she was not allowed to enter the UK to pursue her appeal.
Miss Begum continues to be held at the al-Roj camp and has lost three children since travelling to the war zone.
Of the pair who travelled with Miss Begum, Ms Sultana (left) was reportedly killed in a Russian air raid while Ms Abase (right) is missing
Last summer, during an interview, Miss Begum said she wanted to be brought back to the UK to face charges and added in a direct appeal to the Prime Minister that she could be 'an asset' in the fight against terror.
She added that she had been 'groomed' to flee to Syria as a 'dumb' and impressionable child.
Previously she has spoken about seeing 'beheaded heads' in bins but said that this 'did not faze her'.
This prompted Sir James Eadie KC to brand her a 'real and current threat to national security' during a previous legal appeal at the Supreme Court in 2020.
He argued that her 'radicalisation and desensitisation' were proved by the comments made, showing her as a continued danger to the public.
However, since that interview in February 2019, Begum has said that she is 'sorry' to the UK public for joining ISIS and said she would 'rather die' than go back to them.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, she said: 'There is no justification for killing people in the name of God.

I apologise. I'm sorry.'
She has also opted for baseball caps and jeans instead of the hijab.
has reported that she will tell the court she is no longer a national security threat as her appeal gets underway, with her lawyers set to argue that she was a victim of child trafficking when she travelled to Syria.
Miss Begum pictured as a schoolgirl.

She left London for Syria in 2015 with two fellow pupils from the Bethnal Green Academy in east London
It comes amid claims that the three schoolgirls were smuggled into Syria by a Canadian spy.
According to the BBC and The Times, Mohammed Al Rasheed, who is alleged to have been a double agent working for the Canadians, met the girls in Turkey before taking them to Syria in February 2015.
Both news organisations reported that Rasheed was providing information to Canadian intelligence while smuggling people to ISIS, with The Times quoting the book The Secret History Of The Five Eyes.
Moss Begum's family lawyer Tasnime Akunjee previously said in a statement: 'Shamima Begum will have a hearing in the Special Immigration Appeals Commission court, where one of the main arguments will be that when former home secretary Sajid Javid stripped Shamima Begum of her citizenship leaving her in Syria, he did not consider that she was a victim of trafficking.
'The UK has international obligations as to how we view a trafficked person and what culpability we prescribed to them for their actions.'
Ahead of the beginning of her appeal on Monday morning, immigration minister Robert Jenrick said it was 'difficult' for him to comment on her case at this stage.
However, he said people should always have an 'open mind' about how to respond when teenagers make mistakes.
He told Sky News: 'It's difficult for me to comment, I'm afraid...

because we're waiting for the court's judgment.
'Once we hear that, then I'm happy to come on your programme and speak to you.
'I do think as a fundamental principle there will be cases, rare cases... where people do things and make choices which undermine the UK interest to such an extent that it is right for the Home Secretary to have the power to remove their passport.'
Asked if there is ever room to reconsider where teenagers make mistakes, he said: 'Well, I think you should always have an open mind, but it depends on the scale of the mistake and the harm that that individual did or could have done to UK interests abroad.
'I don't want to comment too much on this case, if that's OK, because we'll find out later what the court's decision was.'
Now the United Arab Emirates and its ally Saudi Arabia are hoping to leverage their rapprochement with [https://www.wiklundkurucuk.com/ba/ istanbul Turkey Lawyer Law Firm] to counter a growing security challenge from Iran and its proxy forces, military sources say.

"They decided during the negotiations with the UAE to quickly deliver 20 armed drones," the source said, [https://nikahkan.id/turkey-armenia-free-to-start-direct-air-cargo-trade-anadolu-agency/ Law Firm in istanbul Turkey] adding they were transferred earlier this month.
A senior Turkish official confirmed Turkey has delivered some drones to the United Arab Emirates and that the UAE was seeking more.

In the event you loved this article and you would like to receive details regarding [https://www.wiklundkurucuk.com/es/ Law Firm in istanbul Turkey] generously visit our own internet site.
